Lucky break! Over the weekend I picked up a used SB-800 for about $240. I’ve been keeping my eye open for one for awhile now — close to two years since I got my smaller SB-600 and read Joe McNally’s book and began to long for a second flash. Now I get to play and learn some new things. It’s fascinating and sometimes quite counter-intuitive stuff.

Daniel was a willing model — since he couldn’t really go anywhere — and I’m happy enough with the picture. However, I do wish I would have taken another shot of him with the flash backed away a little bit more or at a reduced power. It seems a little too bright. But you know, it’s really hard to see the picture on the back of the camera in bright sunlight, and to be honest I was more interested in making sure that I didn’t have any clipped highlights.

And even though Daniel was pretty laid back about the whole shoot, I do have several others that were running/skating wild in the park that I did need to keep half an eye on. Oh well, life is kinda like that.
