The Goo Goo Dolls at Wolftrap!

I went to a rock concert on Tuesday night. As we sat on the lawn, my husband and I tried to remember the last concert I had gone to. It was at least 15 years ago…before my first son was born. Oh and this one was fun! I’d never heard of the opening bands — although I seemed to know a lot of the songs of the second act (Michelle something or other). But it was just so relaxing and nice! The kids didn’t call, the weather was gorgeous, the crowd was large but easy-going, and the music was good. Especially the Goo Goo Dolls. They are one of my husband’s favorite bands — but I like them too.

Music and guitars are his “thing” like photography is mine. ; ) So he enjoyed the show, while I snapped away once we started to hit the golden hour.

I was so pleased with how these pictures turned out too! I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get much of anything since I had to hand-hold my camera. And my biggest focal length lens (the 200mm) is also my oldest, least sharp, and heaviest. I was sure camera shake would ruin every shot.

But with my iso turned up to the max (6400!)and my aperture wide open, I was able to get the shutter speed fast enough that it wasn’t too much of a problem. The noise on the other hand was awful! So after Topaz’s Denoise 5 did it’s magic, you couldn’t see as much detail as I would have liked.

But then again, I was sitting all the way up on the lawn — pretty far back from the stage. So, I was happy that I was getting any facial detail at all!!

I was also amazed that I was able to get a few shots clear of the crowd. Of course everyone had to stand and we had these really tall people in front of us — who continued to stand even after almost everyone else sat down.

Yesterday was a recovery day…
