For February I decided to join up with Willlette’s latest offering — her FREE e-course The Joy of Love (by the way, there is still plenty of time to sign-up — her prompts are always inspiring). And the first prompt was to photograph a loved one “doing” something.
Well, this trampoline has been in constant use since we got it a Christmas. The 9, 7, and 4 year olds all love it. Even the 1 year loves to roll around on it when his brothers and sister will give him a turn! Since the 4 year old loves it the most and since he is still home most of the day, I used him as my model.
How I Did It
1. Set my camera on a tripod with my widest angle lens (19mm) and tilted it up slightly in order to get a little bit of distortion.
2. Stopped down on my aperture in order to increase the shutter speed — giving the boy ample time to jump around — I think it was about 10 seconds.
3. Held my sb600 off camera left and aimed it up slightly — set the flash sync to rear curtain and upped the flash EV by +1.
4. Set my camera to multiple exposures and shot 3 times in a row.
And that was it! In Lightroom I cropped a bit and added a graduated filter to the top right corner which was a bit washed out from the three flashes. It’s a fun technique that certainly does a great job of capturing motion!
What a creative way to capture the action!!
Thanks! It was a lot of fun- and all the kids had a great time taking their turns getting the shot ! The four year olds picture turned out best.

I’m impressed!
this is so clever, love how you have shared how you did it.
Cool shot! Best of luck with the joy of love. I am also doing it and loving it so far.
