I can&#8217;t believe I only have three more days of black and white. At the beginning of the month I decided to process every POTD in black and white for all of January. Why? Well, why not, really! January is not exactly the prettiest month around here &#8212; it&#8217;s all grey and gloomy and just plain colorless. So I thought I would use that opportunity to learn how to process black and white better.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/34096744@N00\/5355539521\/\" title=\"63\/365: XO XO by JDMaleski, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5250\/5355539521_b792b45514.jpg?resize=500%2C343\" width=\"500\" height=\"343\" alt=\"63\/365: XO XO\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Boy did I ever learn! Just playing around on my own at first, and then with the help of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Creative-Black-White-Photography-Techniques\/dp\/0470597755\"><em>Creative Black and White: Digital Photography Tips and Techniques<\/em><\/a>, I feel like I have really expanded my ability to &#8220;see&#8221; in black and white as well as to max out the tonal range in black and white. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/34096744@N00\/5324738324\/\" title=\"53\/365: Cleaning Up by JDMaleski, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5205\/5324738324_027424659a.jpg?resize=500%2C347\" width=\"500\" height=\"347\" alt=\"53\/365: Cleaning Up\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m hoping to get another video tutorial up soon about my workflow &#8212; it&#8217;s easy enough but uses some unusual tools like LAB color space.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/34096744@N00\/5314197283\/\" title=\"50\/365: Mystery by JDMaleski, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5210\/5314197283_daf4268d07.jpg?resize=500%2C327\" width=\"500\" height=\"327\" alt=\"50\/365: Mystery\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As for a favorite photo of the month, I think I&#8217;ll have to go with my 14 month old, Luke.
