I had just pushed his hospital bassinet over to the window where the early morning light was peeking into the small room. I played around with the camera for a few minutes trying to find a composition I liked when suddenly, something in the viewfinder made me put it down and look at him more closely. <\/p>\n<p>Several hours later, the staff pediatrician came in to talk with me about Daniel\u2019s suspected chromosomal abnormality. Words flew out of her mouth: trisomy 21, floppy baby, low muscle tone, advanced maternal age. I half heard. I didn\u2019t cry or feel sad. Strangely enough, I just showed the doctor that picture and said, \u201cI thought so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/-3xbtytWvKKU\/TyR0iZfq3vI\/AAAAAAAAWw8\/Ukgv0t6LDZg\/s1008\/danny_2months.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Daniel at 2 months\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/-3xbtytWvKKU\/TyR0iZfq3vI\/AAAAAAAAWw8\/Ukgv0t6LDZg\/s1008\/danny_2months.jpg?w=494&#038;ssl=1\" title=\"Daniel at 2 months\" class=\"alignnone\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But in my mind, I suddenly pictured the swaddled newborn laying in my lap with a large red bow on his head. Here, at last, was my gift. And what a gift he has turned out to be. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-Qxa2bRM011A\/T84m1oRgk9I\/AAAAAAAAX9Q\/dTCVVSK3kOQ\/s1008\/1205_6monthDaniel_420.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Danny with 3 of his siblings\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-Qxa2bRM011A\/T84m1oRgk9I\/AAAAAAAAX9Q\/dTCVVSK3kOQ\/s1008\/1205_6monthDaniel_420.jpg?w=494&#038;ssl=1\" title=\"Danny and brothers\" class=\"alignnone\"   \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He is still new, almost eight months old, and we have so much more to learn. But Danny is delightful, easy going and very sociable. He loves to smile and sing with his six siblings.
