Here in Virginia it is not at all. The first stanza of T.S. Eliot&#8217;s Little Gidding from the Four Quartets says it best:<\/p>\n<p>Midwinter spring is its own season<br \/>\nSempiternal though sodden towards sundown,<br \/>\nSuspended in time, between pole and tropic.<br \/>\nWhen the short day is brightest, with frost and fire,<br \/>\nThe brief sun flames the ice, on pond and ditches,<br \/>\nIn windless cold that is the heart&#8217;s heat,<br \/>\nReflecting in a watery mirror<br \/>\nA glare that is blindness in the early afternoon.<br \/>\nAnd glow more intense than blaze of branch, or brazier,<br \/>\nStirs the dumb spirit: no wind, but pentecostal fire<br \/>\nIn the dark time of the year. Between melting and freezing<br \/>\nThe soul&#8217;s sap quivers. There is no earth smell<br \/>\nOr smell of living thing. This is the spring time<br \/>\nBut not in time&#8217;s covenant.
